AESS 2023 Updates as of June 13, 2023
Attendee assistance grants have been awarded. Thank you to everyone who contributed to make this funding possible.
Poster submissions to-date have been notified of acceptance. Late submissions will be considered upon request by emailing events@aessonline.org.
Online Registration is open through June 28, midnight PDT. On-site registration will be available. Program Schedule posted.
The first 900 attendees registered will receive free Portland public transit passes. See our transportation section for more details.
Authors’ Reception tables have reached capacity.
Family information and hotel block information has been updated. Please reserve your rooms at your convenience. Invited speakers list has been updated on the Special Events page.
We can still accommodate a few more exhibitor tables. We still have some digital advertising space available. Email canthon@aessonline.org with inquiries.
AESS 2023 Updates as of March 4, 2023
Proposal decisions were emailed March 4, 2023. Check your spam if you didn’t receive a message. You can access your speaker portal by clicking on the button in your notification email. Your username is your email and password will have to be set by you.
Poster submissions will be accepted through May; we anticipate opening this call in the next week.

Check out the venue page for details about lodging and travel. We will be updating the dorms and other hotel blocks as contracts are signed.

AESS proposal deadline extended through January 18, 2023

AESS opens call for proposals for individual, panel, discussion, symposium. Poster presentations will be accepted Jan 1 through May 2023.
Hotel room block will be available at the Hyatt Portland Regency at $199/night +taxes and fees for single/double, and the conference sessions will all be at the Oregon Convention Center.

AESS is seeking planning and program committee members. Email interest to canthon@aessonline.org.
- Identifying “areas of emphasis” or themes for the conference
- Reviewing presentation and workshop proposals
- Helping to build the conference schedule including assembling panels
- Assisting with on-site logistics
- Recruiting volunteers for the conference
- Communicating with presenters
AESS 2022 Updates as of June 20, 2022
AESS announces Portland, Oregon as the 2023 conference location. Dates will be July 9-12. Please note this will be a 4-day co-located event in partnership with the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment (ASLE). Both organizations will issue separate calls for proposals.
